We’re thrilled to welcome you to The Line: Alberta, our first provincial bureau and a standalone publication under The Line banner. This new project will focus explicitly on Alberta — its politics, its culture, and its place in Canada’s national story. Unique news reports. Unique columns. Unique podcasts. All Alberta, all the time.
We’re especially excited to welcome Rob Breakenridge to The Line. Rob is a Calgary-based broadcaster and columnist with nearly 30 years of media experience, including over 20 years as a talk-show host with Corus Radio and 17 years as a weekly columnist with the Calgary Herald. Rob has already been contributing to The Line, but he’s taking on a bigger role now. He’ll be writing regularly here and hosting our new podcast, The Line: Alberta Podcast, which is launching soon.
If this post landed in your inbox this morning, you’re already subscribed to our Alberta list, which we transferred over from our main account. Over the next few days, we’ll be rolling out our first wave of content here — columns and podcasts, but also a brief barrage of housekeeping, necessary to get this new operation running properly. It might get a bit tedious, and we do apologize in advance. It won’t last long, we promise!
And while we’re on the topic of housekeeping, let’s chat logistics briefly. This is important! If you’re a subscriber to The Line’s main publication, like we said above, you’ve been automatically enrolled here. But if Alberta content isn’t your thing, no hard feelings — you can opt out of this by looking at this email in your inbox, and scrolling right down to the bottom. In tiny little text (sorry, we don’t control that!) there is an unsubscribe link.
See the picture below. That’s not the actual link! It’s just a picture. But that’s what you’re looking for, if you’re just interested in getting the content from our main account.
Clicking that link will opt you out of our Alberta-specific content, but, and this is critical, it will not cancel or in any way change your subscription to The Line itself. We have fully separated those mailing lists and websites, and while we hope you’ll stick around to enjoy our Alberta content, we understand that not everyone will be interested. And that’s fine! You can opt out of Alberta-specific stuff here but you’ll continue to regularly receive all The Line’s content, and you’ll still have full access to our site at ReadTheLine.ca.
For our first few posts here, we’re going to be really upfront and explicit about the opt-out option, because we really value your time and we don’t want to send you anything you’re not interested in. If you’re not interested in Alberta stuff, just click the link below, and go with our blessing. We’ll see you back at the main site.
That being said, we certainly hope that you stay. We think you’re going to like what we’re building here. The west is loud, complicated, and full of stories worth telling. And now we’ve got the space to do just that.
Welcome aboard. And watch for a post from this account in a few days with some more information about how to receive The Line: Alberta’s Podcast, which we’ll be launching in just a few days. We’ll also explain a bit more about how this site is going to operate, including why you don’t need a paid subscription to access the content here — you’ll get a few perks if you pay, but paywalls won’t be a problem.
Stay tuned. And again, it’s great to have you here.
